News out yesterday saw the Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Recreation, Michelle O’Byrne officially released a plan for the state’s Mountain Bike trails as well as future promotion of the sport as a tourist attraction.
Multiple documents were released including a Marketing plan that puts forward some exciting proposals, including Mountain Bike Parks and Epic rides to link them together. It makes interesting reading and you can grab it here if you are into that kind of thing!
The plan cost $35,000 to produce and coincides with $300,000 to be put toward trails, especially those closer to populated areas and includes access opportunities for Mountain Bikes on authorised singletrack. The plan points to the shear numbers of tourists that promoting these resources could attract and makes comparison to other examples around the world like Whistler Bike Park, operations in Rotorua and the Mt Buller Resort’s promotions.
We’re excited that Tasmania is welcoming Mountain Bikers with open arms and are going to look at getting down there soon to make some trail guides and check out the whole scene.. now if we can just get some cheap flights that welcome bikes on board!
